Muhammad Ali whos birth name is Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. was born January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. When Ali was 22, after winning the world heavyweight championship fight from Sonny Liston, he changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali after joining the Nation Of Islam in 1964.

Three years after his joining of the Nation Of Islam, Ali was to be drafted to the Vietnam War but due to his religious beliefs and opposition to the war he evaded the drafting and was arrested, he was stripped of his boxing title and his boxing license was suspended.
