The most common injuries within the sport of boxing are the following: Cuts and bruises, sprains and strains, concussions, fractures and shoulder dislocation. -Cuts and Bruises- These are the most common boxing injuries, This usually occures with the contact of the opponents gloves or head. -Sprains and Strains- Bicep, elbow, and back strains are the most common types. These injuries occur due to over-stretching while engaging in a quick movement. -Concussions- The injury occurs due to heavy impact to the head. The impact shakes the brain within the skull and causes the brain to act abnormally for a brief period of time. The symptoms of a concussion are the following - Unconsciousness,Brief loss of short-term memory,Nausea,Loss of coordination,Confusion and Headache. -Fractures- The most common fractures are within the nose,hands,jaw and ribs. -Nose- A fracture of the nose usually happends when he/she takes a direct punch to the nose. -Hand- This is usually caused by the impact of a clenched fist with a skull or a hard, immovable object, such as a wall.The knuckle of the index finger tends to lead the rest of the knuckles in a hard punch, and the knuckle compresses and snaps the neck of the metacarpal bone -Jaw- A fractured jaw usually happends when he/she obsorbes a hard punch to the jaw while their mouth is open. -Ribs- This usually occures when you take direct impact to the ribs, a possible left hook to the body could do it. -Shoulder Dislocation- Boxers sometimes dislocate their shoulders due to improper form or an over-exaggerated movement. A shoulder dislocation occurs when the humerus bone separates from the Scapula bone at the shoulder joint. A dislocated shoulder can be extremely painful. This injury is usually visible due to the boxer’s dangling arm and inability to move the arm from its current position.
